Utrecht University (UU) reserves a number of furnished accommodations with the SSH especially for its international students, PhD’s, staff and guests. The number of accommodations is limited, and is offered on a first come, first served basis. Registration is free. Only when you submit a reservation, you are charged a reservation fee. International students, PhD’s, staff and guests of Utrecht University pay a reservation fee of 77,50 euros.
When can I book an accommodation?
UU Exchange Spring 2020 (1 February – 30 June 2020)
You can register from Tuesday 22 October 2019. Your registration will be reviewed by Utrecht University. You can find the Short Stay booking procedure “How it works,” on our website.
Booking / registration approval dates:
After approval you can book an accommodation. Booking for Erasmus/Exchange Students opens on Tuesday 29 October, 9:00 AM CET.
PhD, staff en guests
PhD, staff & guests of UU can register 4 months before the desired start of the rental period. For more information on finding accommodation for UU students, we refer you to the website of Utrecht University.

International students who study at Utrecht University for one or two semesters as part of their degree program at another University and who are planning to enroll at Utrecht University in September 2019.
International bachelor's and master’s students
International students who are planning to enrol at Utrecht University in the first year of an English taught degree programme in September 2019, and who do not live in the Netherlands yet.
International staff and guests
International staff or working guests who do not yet live in the Netherlands and are (temporarily) affiliated to Utrecht University for the purpose of working activities, including post graduate researchers, visiting teachers and professors, interns, etc.
International PhD candidates who do not yet live in the Netherlands and are (temporarily) affiliated to Utrecht University to conduct research with the purpose to obtain a PhD degree.
All accommodations are only available to international students, PhD candidates, staff and guests who do not yet live in the Netherlands. It is not available for international students who enroll in a Dutch taught program.
Rental agreement & Rental periods
Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree students
SSH accommodation reserved for Utrecht University can be rented for a fixed period only. When you reserve accommodation, you will sign a rental agreement with a fixed duration. If you are looking for accommodation for a shorter time frame, for example because you are planning to do fieldwork, research or an internship abroad, it is not possible to book this accommodation. The rent price for these accommodations is all-inclusive.
The fixed rental periods Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Students can apply for are:
- Full Year Bachelor and Master (12 months): 29 augustus 2019 – 21 augustus 2020
The fixed rental periods Erasmus/Exchange Students can apply for are:
- Semester I (5 months): 27 augustus 2019 – 31 januari 2020
- Semester II (5 months): 1 februari 2020 - 30 juni 2020
- Full year (10 months): 29 augustus 2019 – 30 juni 2020
Staff, guests and PhD candidates
Staff, guests and PhD candidates can rent for a minimum period of one calendar month and a maximum period of twelve calendar months, starting the first day of the month and ending the last day of the month. You can terminate the rental contract on the first day of the month, subject to a notice period of one calendar month. Extension depends on availability and is only possible if the total rental period does not exceed 12 months. With each extension a reservation fee of 77,50 euros is charged.

How to apply
First you need to register for ‘Short Stay’ on this website. Your university will receive a notification once you have completed your registration. Your university will review your registration. If your registration is incorrect you will receive a message instructing you to correct your registration. Do not re-register! After approval by your university (you will be informed by email), you can log into My SSH and reserve accommodation. In order to finalise your reservation, you will be asked to make a down payment. The down payment consists of the rent for the first and the last month, the reservation fee and the one-off cleaning costs for the final cleaning. The down payment is non-refundable in case of cancellation, excepted particular circumstances that are specified in the applicable terms and conditions.
You will be informed about the key pick up procedure approximately 3-4- weeks before the start date of your rental agreement.
