Apply for a room

How can I apply for a room?
When a room becomes available, the SSH publishes this under ‘Rent offer’. After your registration you can apply for a room. The rooms on offer are directly available, they cannot be booked months in advance! Please note that there will be a waiting period; the persons with the longest registration period are invited to view the room. There is often a ‘Present Yourself Night’ (in Dutch: hospiteeravond) to meet prospective flatmates. The current residents choose the new flatmate. You need to be in The Netherlands to attend the hospiteeravond.

What’s the maximum amount of rooms I can apply for at the same time?
The maximum is ten rooms and six independent residences at the same time. By reaching this amount, you will get a notification.

What’s the waiting time?
The estimated registration period you will need is visible on the city pages. Please note that this is an estimation, based on statistics. The actual waiting time is dependent on the time of the year and your own preferences. Cozy and affordable student rooms are popular! Good luck with your search.

Where can I find a floor plan?
Floor plans are in the advertisement under ‘photos and floor plans’.

Can I get priority by travel distance?
No, you can’t get priority by travel distance.

If I do not want a room or an accommodation, can I refuse it?
In principle, you can refuse as many times as you like. However, if it appears that you have had several offers which you have refused, you cannot make a claim for the room guarantee. The SSH will not automatically allocate you a room after three months. If you have indicated via your personal page that you accept the accommodation, you can no longer refuse it free of obligation. We then apply a cancellation term of one month for the rent of the room or accommodation which you have accepted.
