Moving!

How can I get the keys?
If you move to an unfurnished room with a contract for an undetermined time, you will receive the key(s) from the previous tenant in most of the times. In this case you can find a suitable moment together to hand over the keys. This also could be in the evening or on the weekend! In Tilburg we try to hand over the keys personally.

What is the inventory of my accommodation if I receive the keys?
We rent out furnished rooms to international students who come here to study for a half or full year. All the other rooms are unfurnished, with exception for our comfort- and comfort plus-studio’s in Tilburg. Of course you can make agreements with the previous tenant about taking over certain furniture. More information on the furnished studio’s in Tilburg can be found here: https://www.sshxl.nl/en/cities/tilburg/self-contained-apartment-for-stud....

Is it allowed to make changes in my room?
If your accommodation is unfurnished and you are renting for an unlimited period, you are allowed to adjust your room. For example, you can paint the wall in the color that you like. Furthermore, you can hang things to the so-called posterstrip that are present in most rooms. After you have signed your contract you will hear from us if you are allowed to drill in the walls. This will be dependent on the material of the wall, the possible presence of asbestos, and so on.

Note: it is not allowed to paint ceilings, radiators, kitchen blocks, doors, electrical outlets, switches, intercoms and such. Do you want a built-in loft bed, or change the lay-out of your accommodation? You must always first ask permission from the SSH for these types of accommodation adjustments. In this case, send an e-mail to info@sshxl.nl and send (if that is the case) a detailed drawing, a description of the changes and/or a list of materials. We will let you know within two weeks if – and under what condition – we will accept your request. It is possible that a caretaker will check your adjustments in the accommodation. An adjustment of the accommodation does not fall under the so-called tenant maintenance. This means that the costs of your adjustments is at your own expense.

If you are moving, in most cases you will need to lay a new floor linoleum, floor covering or laminate for example. Do you opt for laminate? Then keep in mind a number of things. It is of course not the intention that your neighbors can hear every step you take, or that you damage the floor or walls when laying. For this reason, apply the type of floor to a springy underlay (for example, thermopete). Keep a free space of at least 1 centimeter between the floor and the walls, as the floor can still expand! Do not drill or nail into the cement floors. In case of any inconvenience, you must remove the applied floor. In addition, you are obliged to remove the floor if you move, unless the new tenant wants to take over the floor. If damage occurs through the installation and/or removal of the floor, then you are responsible for the costs of the repair. NB: Do you rent a studio in Tilburg? Then it is not allowed to remove the floor. All studios are equipped with laminate as standard.

Who arranges the internet?
Internet is possible in all accommodations of the SSH. How that is arranged, what the costs are, and what conditions apply vary per home, building, and city. On www.sshnet.nl you will find practical information, the helpdesk details, tips, the general conditions for use and the SSH internet policy.

SSHnet also ensures that no abuse is made of the network. When SSHnet determines that someone is (un)intentionally abusing the network, this person will be disconnected from the network and put in quarantine. You can read more about this at www.sshnet.nl
