How to find a room through SSH Short Stay
Instruction for (international) students of Tio University of Applied Sciences
Tio University of Applied Sciences has reserved rooms for their international exchange and bachelor students. If you have been approved by Tio as a student you can also for a room.
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. Registering correctly is your own responsibility. If your registration is not correct, you will NOT be able to reserve accommodation. Also read the “Terms and Conditions for Tio international students” on our website to be fully informed about the rules and regulations.
1. General Information
1.1 Correspondence
Automatically generated e-mails (like the accommodation confirmation mail) will be sent from noreply@sshxl.nl. Make sure this e-mail address is accepted by your e-mail provider as safe mail and that it does not end up in your spam box!
1.2 Add new rental period
If you already registered in the past and have lived, or currently live at a Short Stay residence you do not need to register again!
- You can use your user name and password to log in and add a new rental period.
- If you forgot your password, go to 'log in', enter your e-mail address and click on "I forgot my password".
- If you do not receive your password, please contact us via reservations@sshxl.nl
1.3 Explanation of the terms
- Rental Period:
This is the period during which student and lessor have agreed to rent (out) accommodation. The rental periods for Tio students are always fixed periods, even if you arrive some days later, or leave some days earlier. You should not register for any other period than the ones mentioned under paragraph 2 "Registration" (desired rental period).
- The rooms offered are only one-person rooms. Shared rooms are not offered at this moment.
- Number of applicants:
If you are accompanied by a friend, partner and/or children, you cannot register them as secondary applicants, because the students accommodations reserved for Tio students are not suitable for (married) couples or families. You can apply for the so-called Direct Offer if you want to rent an apartment for you and your partner or family (please note that different terms and conditions apply to the Direct Offer).
2. Registration
First you will have to register. By clicking -> “Register” on top of the home page. The orange boxes are obligatory.
- Enter your personal information.
- When your nationality is not in the list, enter “not in the list”.
- Enter an account name (make one up yourself) and à Click on NEXT
On the next page you will have to enter
- Your living address and a valid e-mail address.
- When your home address is NOT in The Netherlands, first enter your country, then enter your home address. If your country is not in the list, enter “not in the list”, then enter your address.
- Please also enter your (mobile) phone number.

- Secondary Applicants
Do not enter a secondary applicant (see above). àClick on NEXT
Desired rental period
The fixed rental periods exchange students can apply for are:
semester I 15 July 2011 – 13 January 2012
semester II 14 January 2012 – 15 July 2012
semester I+II 15 July 2011 - 15 July 2012
The fixed rental periods approved students can apply for are:
semester I 15 July 2011 – 13 January 2012
semester II 14 January 2012 – 15 July 2012
The fixed rental periods bachelor students can apply for are:
semester I+II 15 July 2011 - 15 July 2012
It is technically possible to enter other dates than the above, but then your application will NOT be approved by Tio!

When you get to the option
I'm searching for housing via:
Tick the box company/university (do not tick the box 'housing corporation')
>> This is very important! Only when you tick this box, you can search for accommodation that is reserved for you by Tio. If you tick the box 'housing corporation' you will be redirected to our 'direct offer'. Different terms & conditions apply.
- Select Tio.
- Select ‘exchange’ or ‘bachelor’ depending on your status.
à Click on “SAVE”
SSH Short Stay will send a confirmation of your registration via e-mail. With this mail you also receive your account name and password.
3. Approval
The Tio contact person has to authorize your application. When the Tio contact person has authorized you, you will receive an e-mail that informs you that you can start looking for a room in the Tio accommodation offer.
If you have not been approved you will receive an e-mail with the reason. You then log in to adjust your registration and your application is again sent to Tio.
4. Searching
4.1 Log in
Fill in the username and password to log on to your account.
4.2. Check for available accommodation
To access the housing database click on “Offer by University”.
4.3 Terms and Conditions
Before you can see the available accommodations you will have to agree with the Terms & Conditions. Please read the Terms & Conditions carefully before you tick the box “I agree with the Terms & Conditions”.
-> Then click on “Proceed”.
4.4 Search for Housing
Click on 'Search' to see all available accommodation. You can enter your preferences (address/ price category) if you want to narrow your search. You have now access to the available accommodation. When you have made your choice click on 'reserve'.
4.5 Search Result
The information is showed to you in this order: Apartment -> Room -> Building.
Apartment
First you see a list of apartments. Click on an address to see information about the apartment. Under 'Accommodations' you will see the available rooms.
Rooms
Click on a room for details about the room. Then under Details you can click on the name of the complex for more info on the area and the premises.
Building
Here you find detailed information about the building, living area and facilities.
5. Changes
To edit your personal information, or the period for which you are looking for accommodation, log in to your account. On this page you can edit your personal data. On this page you can also change the rental period. If you change your rental period, Tio has to approve your application again.
6. Confirmation
6.1 Correspondence:
Within 10 working days you will receive a preliminary confirmation of the reservation with a request to pay the first and last month of your stay. This payment is non-refundable and necessary to finalize your reservation.
6.2 What to do:
- European exchange students: The first rent payment (first and last month’s rent) has to be received by SSH before arrival. After SSH has received the amount, your reservation is definite. Without receipt of the full down payment keys cannot be handed over.

Clearly state your last name and the address SSH reserved for you with the transfer!
At the same time an administration fee for the accommodation needs to be transferred to Tio. The fee for 2011/2012 is 175 euro. The student is to transfer this fee before 15-08-2011 (first semester) of before 20-12-2011 (second semester) into the bank account of Hogeschool Tio, mentioning the student's name and 'mediation costs SSH'.

Without receipt of the full down payment and administration fee, keys cannot be handed over.
- Non-European students with MVV: the full rental payment will be automatically transferred to SSH by Tio University of Applied Sciences upon notification that the MVV has been issued. The rental costs, including the registration fee of € 175,- are deducted from the transferred amount required for the visa application.
NOTE: all students receive an automatic notification that asks to pay the down payment within two weeks. For visa students (with MVV) the e-mail may be deleted, as Tio will pay the full rental costs upfront!
- Non-European students without MVV: the full rental payment will be automatically transferred to SSH by Tio University of Applied Sciences before arrival in the Netherlands. The rental costs, including the registration fee of € 175,- are deducted from the transferred amount required for the visa application.

7. Definite reservation
Once SSH receives your payment, your reservation is definite. SSH will send you a confirmation that your payment has been received and that your reservation is definite within 10 days of receiving your payment.
